On Saturday I went to a really fun fundraiser for my friend Gia’s best friend Allison, who is currently trying to raise proceeds for Project One Nicaragua, a literary service project. Together Gia and Allison hosted the event, which consisted of Gia giving us a makeup tutorial, and thus makeovers, while we sipped on mimosas and ate really tasty finger foods that Allison had whipped up. All for the suggested donation price of $20! [Read more…]
First of all, Happy Valentine’s Day!
Tommy and I celebrated this holiday with an early dinner at Ripple on Wednesday night. Be on the lookout for a post about this on Friday.
Yesterday was Ash Wednesday, which is the first day of Lent in the Western Christian calendar. Wikipedia describes it as a movable fast that occurs 46 days before Easter, that can fall as early as February 4 and as late as March 10. It is believed that Jesus spent 40 days fasting in the desert, where he endured temptation by Satan. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of this 40-day liturgical period of prayer and fasting. Tommy is back with another blog post, essentially a follow-up from his first post!
Ladies and gentleman the wait is finally over!
DCBFit opened doors for its first Muay Thai Kickboxing class on Tuesday night. Having traveled as far as Northern Thailand to train in Muay Thai, I’ve been dreaming of the day when a place to train would be opening right here in our very building! [Read more…]
1. I have this desire (albeit, strange) to buy a crock- pot immediately. It began while we were in Maine for Christmas. I watched my sister-in-law cook all these delicious meals in hers and I got inspired. Namely because it seems to be the perfect thing to have to cook weeknight meals, when the last thing you want to do when you walk in the door is cook dinner, but the first thing you want when you walk in the door is dinner. It also probably doesn’t help that a lot of my friends are writing and talking about all these tasty crock pot meals they are cooking. [Read more…]
There are very few things that I hate in this world. One of them is rain. I just find it to be a pain and an inconvenience on so many levels.
It is rainy and cold in D.C. today.
I got to experience my first encounter with the rain earlier this morning when I was walking Violet before I left for work. I was determined not to let the weather put me in a bad mood, but surprisingly it didn’t take a lot of determination this time. (I will admit, even though I am known for my continuous cheery and optimistic disposition, if there is one thing that can zap that away for a bit, it’s rain). [Read more…]
So as you know, I won a $50 gift card to City Sports at a 5k run I ran a couple of weekends ago. Not going to lie, I was secretly hoping I would win this raffle because I had several things on my running wish list that I wanted to buy. Imagine my surprise and delight when I won it. 🙂
Without further ado, here are my goods from City Sports. I would also like to add that I didn’t need to come out of pocket for these purchases – the gift card covered it all. SCORE. [Read more…]
1. On Friday night my friend Lara and I went to see Good People at Arena Stage. We both really liked it a lot. I thought it was very funny and very witty. According to the website the play runs 2 hours and 10 minutes, but honestly it seemed over in a heartbeat. The play’s timing was so quick and precise I was able to stay engaged the entire time. I thought the woman who played the main character, Margie, was phenomenal. Lara and I both would definitely recommend seeing this.
2. I had been wanting to try Spring Mill Bread Co. on 8th Street/Barracks Row ever since my friend Max told me he bought a loaf of bread there specifically to make french toast one weekend morning and it was superb. I got my chance on Saturday because I was meeting a friend for coffee so I bought of loaf of their Cinnamon Swirl bread. I made french toast the very next morning after my 6 mile run and it was divine! [Read more…]
