As you can imagine a 12- hour winter road trip (the weather forecast calls for snowy, rainy, and windy conditions for our drive – yes!) with a dog, for a week-long stay in Maine, might entail some serious packing. Here are some essentials we WILL NOT and CANNOT leave our condo without. [Read more…]
I am starting to mentally pack for our road trip to Maine. The actual packing will begin tomorrow night. We’ll be spending Christmas with Tommy’s family in the Portland area for about a week. We are all excited, especially Tommy. 🙂 [Read more…]
Last night I attended the Swedish Embassy’s “Lucia Reception” at the House of Sweden.
The House of Sweden is separate from the actual Swedish Embassy. In addition to the House of Sweden hosting several office suites of the embassies of Sweden and Iceland, it is also an event center that features conference and exhibition halls. The building is located on the Georgetown Waterfront along the Potomac River. [Read more…]
I apologize if this isn’t news to anyone but me. Maybe I’ve been in the dark for too long or just don’t take advantage of my Costco membership like I need to, but I learned not too long ago that Costco provides travel services to its members and I wanted to share this new found knowledge with you all!
(For those of you that don’t know, Costco is American retailer of brand name products, from computers and clothing to gardening and gourmet food.) [Read more…]
As 2012 slowly (well, let’s be honest I’d say more like rapidly – where has this year gone?!) comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on this year and all the events and wonderful memories that happened.
One of them was Tommy and my honeymoon in May to St. Croix in the U.S. Virigin Islands. While we had gotten married the previous year, October 21, 2011, we decided to wait a little bit before we took our honeymoon because of my job and it’s strict vacation policy. [Read more…]
I realize that this “wish list” is a little ridiculous since I have not yet run my first half marathon. This will happen on March 16 when I run the D.C. Rock “N” Roll Half Marathon. However in my defense, I strongly believe I will love the race so much I will catch the running bug and will want to run some other half marathons. Isn’t there a saying when talking about half marathons and marathons “it’s more mental than physical”? (I have also been thinking about this way too much this week).
So here’s to hoping that all my positive mental energy and soon to be training do indeed ring true and I love running half marathons! [Read more…]
Another guest blogger, Anna! Anna currently lives in Dakar, Senegal, working for a San Francisco based nonprofit, Kiva. Kiva is a leader in peer-to-peer lending via the internet, to and from people in all parts of the world.
Today marked one of those mornings where my emotions ran wild; I’m guessing, I’m hoping, oh please — tell me we all know the sort? Or maybe I’m just a total March hare.
In the time span of 45 minutes, I went from… feeling unflappable, invincible, and filled with gumption to tackle any and all inevitable nonsense the day would throw at me, to… unfathomably indignant, and… shortly thereafter, tears which were unreasonably pathetic but impossible to hold back. 1. Tommy and I registered for the Salvation Army’s ‘Angel Tree‘ program yesterday. We already know what two children we are assigned to to buy Christmas presents for. We have two brothers and can’t wait to go buy their presents this weekend. As mentioned, this is one of our favorite things to do at Christmas! We love it. [Read more…]
I’m back from my whirlwind L.A. weekend – what a trip! Of course it went by too fast, but a good time was had by all.
Katie and I met up with each other at LAX on Friday. After getting our rental car we drove to Sarah’s apartment (which we had never seen) on the west side of LA, a couple of blocks from Santa Monica Boulevard. It was a charming 1-bedroom. I also had the chance to (finally!) meet Sarah’s boyfriend. He came over soon after with sandwiches from one of their favorite local delis so what was there not to love? 😉 [Read more…]
In honor of the birthday girl and her birthday weekend, a couple of photos from our freshman year at SMU (Southern Methodist University). Circa September 2001 and January 2002. Can’t believe she is turning 30 on Saturday!!! [Read more…]
