As you can imagine a 12- hour winter road trip (the weather forecast calls for snowy, rainy, and windy conditions for our drive – yes!) with a dog, for a week-long stay in Maine, might entail some serious packing. Here are some essentials we WILL NOT and CANNOT leave our condo without. [Read more…]
I had the most amazing alcoholic beverage I probably have ever had in my life at my friend Margaret’s holiday party last weekend. What is this fabulous drink you ask? Why it’s “Bourbon Slush”! I personally loved this drink because it embodied everything I like about my alcoholic beverages – has alcohol in it, but you really can’t taste the alcohol because it’s mixed really well with other delicious flavors and the drink itself isn’t too heavy, but light and airy. In other words COMPLETELY DANGEROUS. [Read more…]
I am starting to mentally pack for our road trip to Maine. The actual packing will begin tomorrow night. We’ll be spending Christmas with Tommy’s family in the Portland area for about a week. We are all excited, especially Tommy. 🙂 [Read more…]
1. Half marathon training officially began on Monday – yay!!! Per my training plan on Monday I did some stretching and for strength-training I did full body lifting. This consisted of flat dumbell presses, squats, lunges, dips, and dead lifts. This morning I did a 3-mile run. I know it’s super early in the game, but I’m feeling good and am really excited training has begun. [Read more…]
I cannot write anything without saying that my deepest thoughts and sympathies are with all of those effected by the elementary school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. My heart keeps breaking. I know those precious babies and educators lost are angels up in heaven now. Peace be with everyone.
As mentioned before, every year since 2006 when I moved to D.C., I have always hosted a holiday party in some fashion.
My co-hosts may have been different – in 2006 when I lived with two roommates I convinced them how fun it would be to have a party in our apartment and then beginning in 2007 – when Tommy and I moved in together – we began hosting annual holiday parties. My brother lived with us in 2007 & 2008 so he joined in on the co-hosting Christmas spirit as well those years. It is a tradition that we, our friends, and family look forward to and one that I hope to keep continuing for many, many years to come. [Read more…]
Last night I attended the Swedish Embassy’s “Lucia Reception” at the House of Sweden.
The House of Sweden is separate from the actual Swedish Embassy. In addition to the House of Sweden hosting several office suites of the embassies of Sweden and Iceland, it is also an event center that features conference and exhibition halls. The building is located on the Georgetown Waterfront along the Potomac River. [Read more…]
1. This past weekend I went to a couple of restaurants I had never been to before.
On Friday night, my friend Nova and I met for drinks, which then turned into dinner, at 1905 on U Street. I had heard great things about 1905’s cocktails and burger. I had been trying to come here for months but something always came up (read: whoever I was doing happy hour with at the time and I decided to go to a closer bar). I finally made it! Nova and I were very happy with our cocktails and we ordered their homemade potato chips for an appetizer and their potato gnocchi to share for dinner. (I’m sorry, I didn’t take any photos. 🙁 ) [Read more…]
I have a new goal/a new list to start ticking things off of. Explore U Street more, by way of restaurants, bars, etc. This inspiration came to me as I was sipping a drink and sharing a dinner entre with my friend Nova this past Friday night, at 1905, coincidentally a U-Street restaurant and bar.
For non-DCers, U Street Corridor is a neighborhood in the District with many shops, restaurants, nightclubs, art galleries, and music venues. It covers about a 9-block stretch. I have heard it referred to as a “hispter” part of town and that it carries a similar Austin, Texas vibe in the neighborhood. [Read more…]
As 2012 slowly (well, let’s be honest I’d say more like rapidly – where has this year gone?!) comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on this year and all the events and wonderful memories that happened.
One of them was Tommy and my honeymoon in May to St. Croix in the U.S. Virigin Islands. While we had gotten married the previous year, October 21, 2011, we decided to wait a little bit before we took our honeymoon because of my job and it’s strict vacation policy. [Read more…]
I’m back from my whirlwind L.A. weekend – what a trip! Of course it went by too fast, but a good time was had by all.
Katie and I met up with each other at LAX on Friday. After getting our rental car we drove to Sarah’s apartment (which we had never seen) on the west side of LA, a couple of blocks from Santa Monica Boulevard. It was a charming 1-bedroom. I also had the chance to (finally!) meet Sarah’s boyfriend. He came over soon after with sandwiches from one of their favorite local delis so what was there not to love? 😉 [Read more…]
