Saturday in the DMV area really felt like fall had arrived, didn’t it? The sky was a little cloudy and overcast (we had a light drizzle for a little bit, which added to the delightful temperature) and the weather was cool and crisp that you actually needed a light jacket and/or a long-sleeved shirt.
And by some struck of luck, that was the day I decided it would be fun for our family of four to go apple-picking at Hollin Farms! In addition to there be no better way to kick off the fall season (and get excited for pumpkin patches next month), both Ava and Luke have recently rekindled their love affair with red apples, so I figured they would like picking their own red apples.

Man was I right! (And a little surprised how much Luke enjoyed it. I figured Ava would).

We put daddy’s height to work!

Not surprisingly there was some snacking happening in the orchard…

Contrary to all the photos I took, I was actually there too!

I totally meant to color coordinate my mask to my favorite apples (green).

We finished our apple-picking adventure with apple donuts, naturally.

Afterwards we literally drove upon and discovered Barrel Oak Winery and Taphouse on our way to getting gas. Their taproom was still closed, but they had lots of picnic tables for patrons, oyster and pizza pop-ups (you can also bring your own picnic and food), and live music. Neither Tommy or I tried their wine or beer this time, so we are definitely wanting to get back there for a picnic and some sampling of their products!

It was the perfect way to end our day out in the (Virginia) country!
