Ava officially starts elementary school next Tuesday! My sweet, darling baby girl is off to kindergarten. Where has time gone?! And when I say “off to school” I mean downstairs in our soon-to-be makeshift little classroom. Yep – like most of the schools across the country, our elementary school has decided to take the all-virtual approach until further notice.
What am I thinking? Honestly, not sure. Obviously we will make it work, but it’s definitely something that has been on my mind. Fortunately Luke will be in full-time, in-person daycare – he starts a week after Ava does – so we’ll (fingers crossed) only have to manage Ava at home.
Ava will be required to log-in to school (her school has provided her with a Chromebook) Tuesday – Friday, 8:00am – 2:30pm. Mondays will be off-screen days, but she will be required to log-in and do a few exercises on her own (with parental or adult supervision) to get counted as “present”.
On the very optimistic side, I am hoping to coordinate and organize a small learning pod with a few other students in her class, so other families can take turns on different days monitoring the on-screen learning because have you met a 5-year-old and their attention span? Coupled with a few other hours of utilizing our summer tutor for some more in-person learning and with the support of our amazing nanny, Wendy.
On the not so optimistic side? Tommy and I will have to work with each other’s work schedules and just hunker down and be the Kindergarten teachers we always wanted to be.
Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers – we will need them. All.
