Let’s have that sink in. My first baby is 5. Where oh where did time go? I know every parent says their child grows up in the blink of an eye, but man, when it’s your child and you’re realizing what a milestone birthday is (and 5, at least to me, is a milestone)- it really makes you reflective, nostalgic, and sentimental!
As with all the birthdays happening during this crazy time, we didn’t have the birthday weekend we were originally planning – complete with a joint birthday party with her bestie Addie at Scramble that had to be rescheduled for who knows when- we managed to have a pretty incredible and memorable day.
The night before I decorated our kitchen/den a little bit and put out a small pile of presents to greet her with.
It was awesome seeing her face (and Luke’s) as they ran into the kitchen the next morning. (Luke may or may not have had a couple of presents at his high chair so he wouldn’t feel left out). 🙂
I had a local balloon company, Luxy Balloons, install a #5 balloon on our porch that morning.
When Wendy and the kiddos got back from their outside morning time, Ava had another surprise on the kitchen island waiting for her!
We had a noon Zoom call with family from all over the world to sing Happy Birthday to Ava and she was so touched and excited.
After singing and cake it was Ava’s quiet time in her room (and Luke’s nap time). She had another small pile of gifts waiting for her on the island that her sweet friend Addie (and her parents) had delivered for her.
For dinner I made her favorite home-cooked meal, Japanese curry, and then she had another special Zoom date – with Princess Elsa herself – courtesy of Princess Parties of DC!
Followed by some more present-opening.
All in all, I think Ava’s special day was special indeed!
