Happy Monday, ya’ll! Hope you had a great weekend. We sure did – we did lots of fun holiday things with the kiddos and I even got some Christmas shopping out of the way on Friday afternoon before I picked up the kiddos. 🙂
How are you approaching your gift-giving this year? My strategy is a little different this year with our Christmas trip to Sicily.
- I plan on buying the majority of our friends gifts in Sicily because who wouldn’t want something from Sicily? 😉 I also want to manage my expectations in terms of how much “shopping time” I will have while on vacation. While it was perfectly realistic to do all of my Christmas shopping abroad before kids, with two kids in tow, things become a tad trickier. To plan for this gifting approach, I’ve been researching unique things to purchase in Sicily already, which is helping me think through what possible presents to people might be.
- Certain people’s gifts will be bought ahead of time, but will have a personalized touch – such as for our maid and our dog-walker.
- With the exception of my kids gifts and my friends kids gifts, I have been more mindful the last several years to either give gifts of experience or gifts from local shops and stores rather than a department store. (That’s not to say I don’t buy kids gifts locally or gift experiences, but I also know that at a certain age range, kiddos are dead set on the toys they want.)
- Finally, Tommy and I have decided that when we are fortunate enough to go on a big trip over the holidays, we want to start teaching Ava and Luke at young age that their big Christmas gift is the trip. However, we will also give each kiddo a big gift from Santa that will be waiting for them under our tree when we get back from Sicily. I am also packing their stockings in my suitcase along with 2-3 small wrapped gifts, so Santa can make an appearance at our Airbnb in Sicily. 🙂
