My friend Allison and I had a lovely gals night out (read: kid free) yesterday!
We kicked off the night first with drinks and dinner at The Willard Intercontinental Hotel – which definitely got us into the holiday spirit.
The Willard always goes all out for their holiday decor and this year didn’t disappoint. There were also carolers singing in the lobby which was a wonderful treat.
The highlight of our evening though was attending The Illusionists: Magic of the Holidays at the National Theatre. The 2 hour and 15 minute show (with an intermission) showcases the jaw-dropping talents of some of the most incredible illusionists there are.
While I wouldn’t necessarily call myself a magician- show -lover by any means, I did enjoy the performance. Each of the illusionists had fun, differing onstage personalities which carried the show. As a Christmas-lover, I liked how they tied the holiday theme into the show and a lot of the acts performed were pretty incredible. Allison and I spent the majority of the show trying to figure out how things were happening. We were pretty perplexed.
My favorite act if you will was by SOS & Victoria, who have been named “The World’s Fastest Quick Change Artists”. They really do live up to that title. The set includes Victoria seamlessly changing into different, full-blown outfits and dressed within seconds. In a blink of an eye, she’s changed into another outfit and you keep asking yourself “how did she do that”?
The show was centered around a lot of audience involvement and participation which was nice. I liked how there were quite a few kids in the audience and some even were brave enough to go on stage!
If you are looking for a fun, yet slightly different holiday outing/event to go to this year, I would definitely recommend seeing The Illusionists!
The show is at the National Theatre through December 8th.
