On Saturday, Luke turned 1. (Cue the tears and gasps of how time absolutely flew). We still cannot believe that our “baby” is a year-old now and we are still in the post ” birthday party and weekend visitor” glow today.
Auntie Christy and Auntie Danielle flew up for the big par-tay and it was great to have them visit for the weekend.
Months prior to Luke’s birthday, I knew what I wanted the theme to be – A “You Are My Sunshine” theme. We have sung this song to Luke since the day we brought him home from the hospital and he loves this song. He can be in the worst of moods, but once someone (typically Ava and/or me) start singing the first words of the song he immediately calms down and starts smiling.
The party was from 10am – 1pm, brunch time, so we made the most of it and had a bagel bar, a Mimosa bar, coffee, and beer & cider available for guests.
I cannot say enough good things about Call Your Mother, which is where I ordered all the bagels and fixings for the party. Soooo many people at the party kept commenting on the food and kept asking me where I got the bagels from. Not only were the bagels delicious, but as you can see they are incredibly generous with the toppings. For Luke’s party, I ordered two boxes of The Ernie G (assorted bagels with cream cheese + fixings of cucumbers, tomatoes, red onions, capers, and seasonal veggies) and one box of The Dolph (assorted bagels with all the fish + fixings of smoked salmon, whitefish Salad, candied salmon, plain and candied salmon cream cheeses, cucumbers, tomatoes, red onions, capers, and seasonal veggies). After seeing the damage done after the party, I should have ordered another box of The Dolph!
The Mimosa Bar proved to be a huge hit among guests. I offered three different juices to be mixed with Prosecco – watermelon, peach, and orange juice.
For kiddo activities we had a baby pool and water table out in our yard and an arts and crafts table on our playroom downstairs.
Luke decided not to take his morning nap, so by the time we decided to sing to him and give him cake for the first time, he was ready to fall asleep (which explains his grumpy mood)!
Happy Birthday, sweet Luke. We are so blessed to have you in our lives. We are the luckiest ones. Here’s to a fabulous year ahead.
