Happy, rainy and chilly Monday! Hope you had a good weekend on the books. Our weekend was spent going to one of our local farmer’s markets, eating brunch at one of our favorite locales, spending time with friends, and squeezing in a jog for myself. That’s right – I’ve “officially” started working out again, post-pregnancy!
On October 1st I had my 6-week postpartum doctor’s visit and everything checked out. My OB told me I had already lost 33 pounds of baby weight (thank you breastfeeding) and most importantly she cleared me to start gradually working out and lifting things heavier than Luke (Ava, primarily – YAY)!
Being able to start working out again was music to my ears. While I was certainly kept busy caring after a newborn (and toddler and dog and hubby), I noticed that I really missed doing some kind of physical activity like running, stretching, etc on a regular basis. I promptly began signing up for various Mommy and Me Yoga classes at Mind the Mat.
I really enjoyed our first Mommy and Me yoga class. I wasn’t sure what to expect and took some time mentally prepping for it (trying to time nursing Luke with the class, thinking through all the things I should bring to make sure Luke was as comfortable (read: good and not crying) as he could be at class. Once I got to the class all my initial anxieties were rapidly washed away. It was such an easy class to go to. I saw mamas nursing their babies before and during the class. People brought bucket carseats, blankets, etc and just let their babies hang. If a baby or two started crying, no one cared. I also loved that a lot of yoga moves incorporated holding baby should s/he be fussy and needed a change of position during the class. Luke was a champ for the class too. A major win!
I’ve started jogging again too, as mentioned above. My first jog after 3 months of not running at all definitely felt strange. Of course, I expected to be a lot slower with my pace, but my stomach from my C-section and my chest (with all the nursing) did feel a bit funny and sore, but I know these two things will eventually subside.
Tommy, Ava, Luke, and I signed up for the Veteran’s Day 2k-walk next month and we’re all pumped to do something physical and outside as a family!
Luke will be 2 months this coming Friday and I honestly don’t know where the time has gone. It’s amazing to see him growing and achieving various developmental milestones. I’m feeling pretty good mentally and physically as well. As expected, I have good days and bad days (where exhaustion and a sense of being overwhelmed show their ugly force), but all in all things are going extremely well and we’re all embracing our new normal. 🙂
Hope you have a great day!
