For our July 14th Street dinner, we veered a teensy bit off 14th Street to U Street. Christina spotted the Smith on one of her walks and asked if we could eat here for our dinner this month, and Tammy and I agreed. The Smith is self-described as an NYC offshoot for upscale American eats, specialty drinks & brunch in hip, upbeat surrounds. They also believe in working with local farmers and vendors to ensure the freshest and tastiest food possible. I had never heard of the Smith, so I was excited to come here.
I did like the feel and layout of the restaurant a lot. I thought the bar looked like a great place to grab a drink at, whether before dinner or just for a happy hour.
In addition to the usual suspects of Christina, Tammy, and I dining out – we also had Tammy’s mom, Dana, join us, which was a lot of fun.
To start, we decided to order the Hot Potato Chips with blue cheese fondue. While I’m generally not a huge fan of blue cheese, this dip was delicious in my opinion. We made sure to polish all of the dip off, asking for extra bread, once we ate all the chips.
Never one to say no to mussels and frites when they grace a menu, both Dana and I chose the Pot of Mussels for our main course.

tomato, garlic, white wine, chilies, basil, fries
Tammy ordered the Smith Bar Steak.
While Christina ordered the Marinated Grilled Shrimp.

coconut curry, black rice, bok choy, snap peas, crispy ginger, cilantro

Happy and stuffed campers!
I would recommend the Smith for a good, solid, and predictable night out for dinner. The food was good, our servers were very attentive, and the ambiance was pleasant and chill.
