How did you all spend your Memorial Day this year? I only had one thing on our “agenda” and that was to spend time with my little family and be outside if possible (which was iffy since our area has seen so much rain lately).
We began the day leaving our house around 8:30am. We and another family in the neighborhood were heading to Watkins Regional Park in Upper Marlboro, Maryland to give our respective kiddos (they have a son, Ryker, who is 2) some time to run around outside before the rain came. It was misting for a bit when we got there, then it cleared up, and then it started raining again. Fortunately, Ava and Ryker were still able to get a solid 1.5 hours on the playground! Really glad I decided to wake up a bit early to pack some snacks for everyone to enjoy – I made little sandwiches, brought some chips, some nuts, and an assortment of fruit. The other family picked up some pastries from Junction Bakery, so we were all set!
As the rain slowly started to come down a bit more forcefully, we decided to go inside to check out the Nature Center about a 2-minute drive from the playground. Even though the center was basically one large room, with some animal cages outside – which we didn’t go see because of the rain, it was pretty neat to see various fish, birds and reptiles-in cages! (Both the playground and Nature Center were free). Ava loved it here.
They had a cute storybook nook and a puppet show theater for kids to play with.
Ava was all about the books!
After some coaxing, we were finally able to drag Ava out of the Nature Center. Before we headed home, we met some other friends in the area for ice cream (the kids) and coffee (most of the adults) since we hadn’t seem them or their kids in awhile.
Once we were at home, Ava finally settled into her nap and Tommy and I each got some work done on our computers and around the house. A little before 4pm, I left the house because I was getting a much needed and anticipated prenatal massage! Tommy and Ava had a cookout to go to at another neighbor’s house. Our original plan had all of us going to the cookout on time and me leaving early for my massage appointment, but it took Ava a bit longer to fall asleep for her nap (all the ice cream!) so we decided to let her sleep in a bit.
I was sent these pictures from the cookout:
Little Miss loves being outside and playing in the water and dirt!
Once we were all home again, we did the tubby, dinner, and bedtime thang with Ava, before Tommy and I settled in to watch Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final.
It was a good, albeit gloomy, Memorial Day for sure!
