Me being me, I did some research before our Breckenridge trip in early- January – mainly so I’d be prepared for the elements and entertaining options with a toddler (and husband). One of the first things I read was that locals refer to Breckenridge as “Breck”. While in Breck no?
Here is a photo recap of our trip if you’d like to see:
Tommy, Ava, and I were joining several friends for a Breckenridge getaway a few days after New Year’s. This group of friends included my friend Tammy (of my 14th Street Dinner peeps) and her husband, Natan, and our friend Christina (of my 14th Street Dinner peeps) coming from D.C. We were all meeting our friends Miki (formerly of our 14th Street Dinner peeps), her husband, Chris, and their son Zak, who had moved to the Denver area last year, and were driving to Breckenridge from Broomfield.

We rented a beautiful cabin (and Tahoe, ha!) about 5 miles outside of Breckenridge.

The whole gang, minus Tommy, who took the photo.

The view outside of our living room window!
Being in Breck and all, we had to partake in some wintery activities, like tubing, hiking, and sledding. (Ava and Zak were too young and too short to take ski lessons on this trip).
After only tubing with Tommy and me once each, Ava declared she wanted to tube “by herself”. We compromised to let her think she was tubing by herself (once she got to the very end of the hill, Tommy gave her a little push.)
Ava and Zak’s version of sledding was pulling their sleds around on the snow.

Could be mistaken for a local!
We explored downtown Breck a bit.

Gals lunch at Breckenridge Brewery & Pub.
We ate a big group dinner out one night.
In addition to eating out, we made good use of our big and beautiful kitchen at the cabin.

I had viewing company the night I was in charge of cooking dinner.
Most of us took full advantage of our hot tub at the cabin.
We rode the free Gondola up Breckenridge Mountain one day.

As you can see, Ava was less than thrilled.
Nothing that her first hot cocoa couldn’t fix!
Some amazing views from the mountain top.
Speaking of amazing views, can we talk about this picture I took out our car window on an evening drive?!
And finally, there was also some time for pampering – for Tammy and me at least. While she and I got massages at the Four Seasons Vail Spa, everyone else was either skiing (Natan) or walking around the town and playing on the playground.

At Ford Park in Vail.
Tammy and I also got a chance to eat at the most delicious place in Vail.
It was definitely a fun and memorable trip to Breck for the first time!
