Ava and I went to see another toddler theater production put on by Arts on the Horizon, a children’s nonprofit theater, this Saturday. I was kindly invited to review their By the Seashore show and because both Ava and I liked the last show we went to, I jumped at the invitation. I was also curious to see how Ava would react to this show, being a little bit older since the last show. The age recommendation for this particular production is 0-2 years old.
By the Seashore takes the young audience on a special and imaginative journey to the beach. Kiddos and their families are invited to explore all the wonderful things we find on the shore, in the ocean, and the sky. There is a combination of puppetry, movement, and sound throughout the play. This sensory-filled production is specifically designed for babies and young toddlers.
Prior to the show, kids (and parents) were invited to “be held” in another room that offered different thematic play stations for kids to occupy themselves.

Here are some photos of By the Seashore:

Ready to get this party started!

A day at the beach.

Playing together.

The ocean/waves.
I loved how the actors interacted with the kids throughout the show, showing them their props, making faces at them, and engaging them to react to the situation at hand.
From the seashore…

A crab ensemble.
To the water…

Coral and a sea turtle.

A glow fish!

Have you ever met a kid that doesn’t love bubbles?
And high above in the sky…

A bird!
To be expected, I think one of the coolest things about the show was allowing kids to talk to the actors and see all the cool, handmade props closeup.

You’ll notice the towels strategically laid out in a semi-circle. Guests were invited to sit on the towels amongst cut-outs of starfish and clams to get in the mood.
Another great production put on by Arts on the Horizon! I just love how this organization’s mission to is to create quality and education theatric performances for young children. Not only is it a creative outlet, but it lets and encourages kiddos at a young age to be creative and artistic. I am 100% behind this effort and cause.
There are still shows with ticket availability throughout the month of July. Hurry before they are all sold out or the show closes! Your little one(s) will thank you.
