We had a blast driving up to Portland, Maine and the surrounding areas to attend Tommy’s sister, Danielle’s, wedding. It was a lovely wedding and a lovely long weekend (we left last Thursday and returned this past Monday) spending time with family.
Here are some photos, if you’d like to see.
Tommy and I decided to break up the long drive from D.C. to Portland (between 8-10 hours each way) by stopping in Greenwich for the night, both going to Maine and returning from Maine. It worked out rather nicely, as you may remember, my friend Tiffany lives there! We were able to see Tiffany, her husband Chris, and their son Cole for dinner on Thursday night.
We met Tiffany, Chris, Cole, and Tiffany’s dad, Steve, (who was in town for work) for dinner at the Little Pub.
Before we began our second leg of the trip on Friday morning, we stopped at Scalzi Park in Stamford to let Ava get out some energy before another 5 hour-ish car ride.
For lunch a few hours later, we stopped at a cool restaurant Tommy found by Googling restaurants near our exit on 95N, Nancy’s Airfield Cafe! As the name suggests, the restaurant rests on a local airfield in Stow, MA. We were not only drawn to this cafe because it was a local eatery and because we knew Ava would like seeing some airplanes, but because it was described as a farm-to-table restaurant. A day on the road can leave some people hankering for some healthy food! We were impressed with the food, but the service was a bit slow…
Soooo slow + traffic being HORRIBLE beginning right at Stow and ending promptly once we crossed into Maine, that we were literally racing to make Danielle’s rehearsal dinner. I’m happy to report that we made it, but it was a bit crazy and stressful leading up to it, not gonna lie. I also took absolutely no pictures this night because I was too busy chasing after Ava, who was inarguably the life of the rehearsal dinner.
The next morning, Tommy and I decided to take Ava to an indoor trampoline park, Get Air so she could jump around and have some fun before the wedding festivities began that afternoon. Even though this was her first time going to a trampoline park, Tommy and I had no doubt that she would love it. And love it she did. A little scared for maybe the first 5 minutes of getting there, but then she was jumping, bopping, and sliding like a pro. You may guess, Tommy had to carry a crying baby out of there once her jumping time was up.
And then it was showtime! The ceremony and reception was held at Tommy’s older sister, Christy’s, cabin and property in Naples (about 45 minutes from Portland).
This is one of my favorite pictures of the night. Ava spent most of the reception on the dance floor. As we were trying to leave to put her in bed not too past her bedtime, she ran back onto the dance floor and joined Danielle and her bridesmaids who were dancing to Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off”. She stood right in front of them and “shook it” in all the right places during the song. It was so stinkin cute.
The next day before heading back to Greenwich, on our way home, we came back to Christy’s house for breakfast and quality family time. Grammy, Dawn, Joe, and Brian (Christy’s husband) were also there.
And to top it all off, we got some farm fresh eggs to take home courtesy of Christy and Brian’s chickens!
We had such a fun time this weekend. Danielle and Erik, your wedding was beautiful and perfect, as the two of you are. So glad to be part of your special day.
We hope to be back very soon!
