Happy Monday everyone! Is anyone else finding it really hard to conceive that a week from today will be Memorial Day?! 2017 is almost halfway done = NUTS!
This weekend was a busy one with my little toddler. With Tommy being in Maine with his family over the weekend, I started making loose weekend plans a couple weeks ago (just so I’d have spur-of-the-moment options to refer to since, in addition to needing and wanting to be kept busy all the time, Ava also has a little ADD right now – going from activity to activity in mere minutes). Welcome to the TWOs I guess!
Friday
On Friday night, I met my mom and Ava for dinner at Lena’s as soon as I got off the metro. While Ava always enjoys going to Lena’s and is always pretty good when dining in restaurants, she was in a particularly good mood this evening. I think a lot of it had to do with us sitting in the (unspoken) designated kiddie area, tucked away in a corner. She was able to interact and look at lots of kids of varying ages.

Ava is enamored with little babies right now. The baby she was looking at was around 3 months old!
She thought her menu and crayons were just the coolest. And I learned that pizza is now one of her favorite foods. I ordered her a kid-sized cheese pizza (which was basically a medium-sized pizza) and she ate it all, except for one piece! She also ate some of my mom’s lasagna.
After dinner we headed home for tubby time and some floor playtime before I kissed her goodnight.
Saturday
After my mom, Ava, and I had eaten a small breakfast at home, showered and changed, and I had walked Violet, we hopped in the car (sans V) for IHOP. My mom had been craving their pancakes for a long time (blame it on chemo ;-)), so I thought it would be fun for us to go there for breakfast on Saturday. Lucky for my mom and me, there were several kids eating here as well, so Ava was occupied for the most part.
After IHOP, we hung out at Ava’s favorite park nearby for an hour or so. While the weather was cloudy, it was in the high 70s, so it was actually perfect weather to be outside running after a toddler. Not too hot and not too cold.
I love that the two photos I quickly snapped in between chasing Ava around were her in the exact climbing position. She sure does love to run and climb!
We had to coax Ava away from the park because I had a couple more errands I needed to do before we headed home for a bit. One of them being, stopping by our local library to get a library . card and rent some books for our upcoming trip to Atlanta this coming weekend for Ava and me.
Cute/funny side story: sometimes Ava goes to this library with her nanny during the week for story time and music time. The room where this takes place was closed on Saturday and she kept running over there trying to open the door saying “music”, “music”, “music”.
Ava (and mom) were starting to fade after 30 minutes at the library, so we all headed home to relax, eat lunch, and take naps.
Once Ava was up from her 2 hour nap! we piled into the car again, heading to the grocery store to buy ingredients for dinner that night and the upcoming week. Mom made a delicious dinner of rice, broccoli and seared tuna.
After Ava was fast asleep, mom, Violet, and I settled on the couch downstairs and watched Hidden Figures. Great movie.
Sunday
Around 4am we got a “surprise” visitor. Daddy had come home a early! (Tommy was originally supposed to come home late-last night, but on Thursday decided he missed his gals too much and was going to drive through the night on Saturday so he could spend Sunday with his family).
I guess mom and I continued doing a great job of tiring out Little Miss because she slept until 9am this day! SCORE. I had originally planned for her and I to go to church at 10am, but since I wasn’t planning on her sleeping until 9am, that agenda item was nixed because I knew there was no way she and I would be ready to go in 45 minutes.
The morning quickly went by and pretty soon it was time for us (now with Tommy) to head to her friend Maeve’s 1st birthday party! (She and Maeve share Wendy as a nanny together). Mom stayed behind to clean breakfast up and then headed back home.
Ava had a blast at the party. Tommy slipped out an hour or so into the party because he was fading, but Ava and I didn’t get back home until 1:30pm or so. I quickly went about making her and I lunch and prepping and turning the crock-pot on for one of our regular favorite dinners, while Tommy napped away.
Once Ava was down for her nap (a 1.5 one!), I left my snoozing family to do a Target run and get a much needed (and belated Mother’s Day gift) pedicure.
When I got back home, Tommy and Ava were on their way to the park, so I took time to get dinner on the table, chatted with a couple friends, and tidied up the house a bit.
And now here we are on Monday. 🙂
Hope you have a great week.
