Today is Tommy’s birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TOMMY!
He is currently in Maine spending some much needed family time with his mama, sisters and brothers. As has been the case since 2014, Tommy’s birthday has become bittersweet as his dad passed away 3 years ago today on his birthday, May 18th. I am so happy that he gets to spend this emotional day with his family in person this year.
On Tuesday night, Tommy and I were able to go on a pre-birthday dinner date after we put Ava down. (Thanks mom for baby-sitting!) We had a wonderful grown-up dinner at Voltaggio Brothers Steakhouse at the new MGM Resort and Casino at National Harbor.
As this was our first time here, we were pretty impressed with the enormity and overall structure of the building. We liked that the decor was sleek, modern, and clean. You actually felt like you could be in Vegas.

While Tommy didn’t indulge in any grown-up beverages, I sure did!

I settled on the Clover Club, a popular drink in 1917, at the recommendation of our server. Ingredients: Ransom Old Tom Gin, housemade raspberry-hibiscus syrup, lemon juice, and protein
Tommy, of course, ordered a steak for dinner.

14 oz NY Strip
While I made a surprising choice by not opting for a pasta or seafood dish.

Free Range Chicken. Ingredients: Cracklins, Banyuls Vinegar Butter
We also decided to split a side of Potato Gratin.

Ingredients: Gruyère Cheese, Thyme
And of course no birthday dinner is complete without a complimentary sweet to send you on your way home!
Tommy and I had a great time having uninterrupted discussions and being able to not share our food with someone else (love you Ava!) We would definitely come back to Voltaggio Brothers Steakhouse for another special occasion, as the bill can get high very quick! The service was good and attentive.
After dinner we walked around the casino for a bit taking note of the other restaurants at MGM. We couldn’t help but peak in at the actual casino, but didn’t go in. That’ll be for next time. 🙂
Happy Birthday Puppy! We all love you dearly and hope that your 34th year is the greatest yet.
