Who else is excited that it is Friday today? Some of our weekend plans include cheering on the Caps tonight and Sunday, taking a day trip to Fredericksburg, Virginia (a town south of D.C.) to visit a brewery, grab lunch, and walk around downtown, and sending some neighbors off to Cali at a farewell BBQ.
This past Wednesday the 14th Street Eating crew decided to trek up to the Columbia Heights section of 14th Street to eat at Thip Khao, a self-described sleek & modern eatery showcasing spicy Laotian dishes & classic cocktails with an exotic twist.
I was excited about eating here since I have heard great things from other people who had eaten here and I was very much looking forward to the delicious Laotian food I was introduced to when I visit the beautiful and charming country several years ago, (here, here, and here). Can I just say extra kudos to Tammy for stepping a little out of her food comfort zone to come eat here. I think it is safe to say she was pleasantly surprised!
We decided to start off with a couple of small plates, which were big crowd pleasers.
I felt we had to order a salad so…
While Christina and I loved the salad, Tammy gave it so-so marks. She thought it was really spicy and there was something in here that didn’t sit quite right with her tastebuds.
Next up were some delicious, delicious, delicious noodles.
We honestly could have ordered another one of these dishes, but we were quite (surprisingly) full.
We also ordered beef skewers, which I now just realize I didn’t get a photo of! Apparently they were too delicious for any of us to remind me to take a photo. 🙂
For anyone who loves spicy food, this is your restaurant! The restaurant itself was medium-sized, and exuded a casual and friendly vibe. Thip Khao is easily metro accessible on the yellow and green lines and is a 2-block walk from the metro.
Have a great weekend!
