On Saturday, March 25, one of my littles – Christina – tied the knot to the man of her dreams, Aaron! Believe it or not, I had four littles during my sorority days in college and as Christina was my last to say “best wishes” to, it was very heartfelt and exciting.
Below I share the speech I gave to her and Aaron at their reception and some photos of this lovely day. Her twin, Tiffany, also gave a speech alongside me.
Hi I’m Maya Mahoney. Not only am I a close college friend of Christina’s, but I am also her Big Sister from our Gamma Phi Beta days that began 14 years ago. She will always be my Lil Maho 2.
When Christina asked if I would say a few words at her wedding, I knew I wanted to find the perfect quote that embodied this incredible woman of God.
After awhile, I found it.
Ellen J. Barrier, a Christian author wrote, a strong woman builds her own world. She is one who is wise enough to know that it will attract the man she will gladly share it with.
Christina defines strength. She carries herself with purpose, confidence and poise. And when she may waver at times, she puts complete trust in her faith. She is deeply loyal and steadfast to the people fortunate enough who she considers her friends. She works extremely hard and is incredibly motivated. In fact to this day, the number one thing that I truly admire about Christina was how hard she worked in college. Not just excelling at school work, but literally putting herself through college – through blood, sweat, and tears. The road wasn’t always easy, but with her faith, dedication and sense of responsibility she earned that degree.
When Christina knows what she wants, she goes after it – no questions asked. And she NEVER settles.
Aaron – as you’ve heard Tiffany, others and myself say from time to time, Christina met a few frogs before God put you in her life. I know everyone in this room agrees that we are all so thrilled that you two found each other. Like Tiffany said, you two just fit. You cheer each other on with professional and personal aspirations. You build each other up when one of you may be having a bad day or are struggling with a certain situation. Words can’t express how excited I am for you two to embark on the amazing, challenging, beautiful, and vulnerable journey marriage is.
And with that, if everyone will once again raise their glass with me to toast the bride and groom and officially welcome Aaron into the Maho Family. Cheers!
