Good morning friends!
What a fun-packed weekend we had with Tommy’s mommy, otherwise known as Grammy.
She arrived mid-day on Friday. Tommy picked her up at the airport and then took her to lunch at one of his old standbys, Buffalo Wild Wings. I met up with Grammy, Tommy, and Ava at my mom’s condo after work because mom was having us all over for dinner!
She cooked up a feast – coconut chicken soup, papaya salad, and ginger pork with rice. YUM! Little Miss loved the coconut ginger soup – I swear she had 3 bowls of it and even figured out how to slurp out of a soup bowl by tipping her bowl into her mouth without anyone showing her how. I’m sad I didn’t get a photo of it, but we were all so in the moment we forgot to snap a picture.
After dinner Grammy, Tommy, Ava and I headed home to do the whole bedtime routine with Ava and then the adults turned in fairly early ourselves. I had woken up with a scratchy throat that morning and wanted to nip whatever it was in the bud stat since I had a busy weekend and week ahead of me.
The next morning we all had a nice, leisurely morning of Ava playtime, a long walk for V and a breakfast of scrambled eggs, toast, and coffee before we all (including V) piled in the Jeep. We were heading to Sky Meadows State Park in Delaplane, Virginia!
Sky Meadows is about 45-minutes to an hour from our house. We passed this winery you may remember we went to a little over a year ago. While I had never been here before, Tommy and V were regulars as Tommy tries to take Violet here for a hike once a week during the work week. (The perks of working remotely!)
It was a beautiful, sunny day – though a bit windy, but we made do with an hour or so hike!
Stunning views and landscape. DC seemed very far away.
Can you see Grammy in the photo below?! Tommy, Ava, Violet, and I walked down a hill that honestly didn’t seem that big to us, while Grammy waited atop another hill for us. Maybe she knew something we didn’t because she didn’t seem that tiny to us in person!
Pretty soon our stomachs were telling us it was lunch time, especially Ava Joan’s! Tommy and I decided to take Grammy back to The Plains for lunch since we had enjoyed the darling town a couple weeks back. While we loved the Front Porch Market and Grill, we decided to give The Railstop a try.
They seemed a little understaffed for a Saturday afternoon so it did take awhile for us to order and get our food, but once we were eating we were all very pleased with our meal selections. Tommy got their burger, Grammy ordered their wrap of the day, and Ava and I had their pasta special.
After lunch we headed home. As what usually happens on longer rides home, Ava fell asleep in the car about 30 minutes away from home so we tried transferring her right to the crib to continue her afternoon nap, to no avail. Anyone else have a toddler who just will not continue sleeping in his/her crib even if they only get a few minutes (and I mean few minutes, on another trip Ava had only slept for 10 minutes in the car and still refused to continue sleeping at home) of shut-eye in a car?! Tommy let her have an hour or so of “quiet time” (just time in her crib talking, listening to her musical toys) before collecting her and keeping her entertained while Grammy and I relaxed.
Once Grammy and I were rested up, I took over Ava duty while Tommy and his mom went to the grocery store. Tommy was making us our oldie, but goodie paleo butternut squash lasagna for dinner and he had asked his mom if she would bake another batch of her famous chocolate chip cookies for him before she went back to Portland. Of course she said yes!
We had another low-key evening after I bathed Ava and put her to bed of watching the All-Star NHL Skills Competition and stuffing our faces with lasagna!
The next morning mom came over to visit before Grammy left for the airport. She brought goodies from Junction Bakery.
We spent the morning hanging out all together enjoying each other’s company. And did wake up early to “slave” away in the kitchen making cookies for her darling son before she left. 😉
Pretty soon it was time to say goodbye to Grammy. 🙁 She had a flight at noon.
Mom stayed at our house for a couple more hours – she and Ava took a long walk to the park, and then I fed her lunch and put her down for her afternoon nap. She slept for about an hour and 15 minutes this time! Mom headed home while Ava was still napping as our family of three still had two more things on our agenda for the afternoon.
A 3-year-old’s swimming birthday party and a neighbor’s “hot toddy get-together”!
Hope your weekend was wonderful too!
