With January slowly creeping upon us (more like railroading!) we decided to get our butts in gear and make some MLK weekend plans since Tommy and I have that Monday off. I’m excited to say that we’ve rented a cabin on Mount Jackson! We’ll be leaving Saturday morning and returning Monday afternoon. Tommy has been saying for awhile he’d love to rent a cabin for a long weekend to hike and relax so I thought MLK weekend was a perfect time for this.
Mount Jackson is in the heart of Shenandoah Valley in Virginia (about 2 hours from our house). The last time we were in this area was for New Year’s in 2013. The cabin we rented is actually on the same ski resort, Bryce Resort, we stayed at the last time. This time around we’ll have my mom, Ava, and Violet in tow.
Take a look at our home for the weekend…can’t wait!
In addition to hiking, relaxing by the fire, reading, and watching TV, I plan on doing a lot of yummy cooking! I’ve started compiling a menu for the weekend that includes biscuits (a breakfast) and clam linguine (a dinner).
The last time Tommy and I were here we just stuck around the ski resort, so we’re looking forward to exploring more of the area (and not just in terms of hiking). I’ve started doing some research on this area and there are a couple of wineries nearby, a beautiful covered bridge to check out, and even a potato chip factory! 😉 We may even check out some real estate out in the mountains as it’s nice to dream of a little vay-cay locale for future trips…
A recap of this trip (once it actually happens) will be coming your way!
Any other recommendations/suggestions on things we should do when we are out this way? Would love any and all advice.
