You may all remember that my cousin Lena (AKA Bottles) moved in with us for a few months (6) last year to help us take care of Ava once I went back to work after maternity leave. We loved having her, but she had to leave us to go back home and begin her new life with her boyfriend, Keru, (who recently moved from New York City to LA to be with her) last December…!
Well, on Tuesday afternoon she and Keru took the train down from New York City after spending Thanksgiving with his family to visit us for a few days. They actually left earlier today.
It was a short visit, but very sweet. Lena (and Keru) had fun re-connecting with Ava and Violet – and they both gals remembered Lena and Keru!
Since they came during the week, they were left to their own devices during the day to sleep in and visit favorite old neighborhood spots, and then come evening we all hung out.
On Tuesday night we decided to take them to a favorite Japanese restaurant of theirs in Old Town Alexandria, Ichiban. Mom joined us for dinner too and we had a good time catching up. Ava had fun stealing smiles and coy glances at Lena, who sat across from her at the table. She totally remembered Lena! She was little shy at first, but come Thursday night she was doling out the hugs and kisses to Bottles. 🙂
Wednesday night Tommy and Ava stayed home (don’t worry, I brought Tommy home some grape leaves), while Lena and Keru joined my 14th Street dinner gang for our November dinner at a repeat (and delicious) restaurant, Kapnos. They were both so glad they joined us as dinner was sooooo yummy.
Since we had a larger group than normal we were able to order a few more dishes than usual, which was totally fine by all of us! Here are a couple highlights of the dinner:
What I didn’t get a photo of was the roasted cauliflower dish that was divine.
And last night, Thursday, their last night in town and Lena’s birthday (!) we stayed in to enjoy family bonding time. I cooked Japanese Curry for dinner and we celebrated Lena turning 26 with Prosecco and an assortment of cupcakes from Baked and Wired. YUM!
And of course there was plenty of play time and cuddle time.
We are so glad ya’ll came and visited us. Come back anytime!
