Happy Monday night! How was everyone’s start to Thanksgiving week? Mine flew by as I’m trying to tie up loose ends and make sure timely things are completed at work before I go on my Thanksgiving break and PACK 🙂
This weekend we had a very special guest in town – my dad/Ava’s grandpa! He lives in Geneva, Switzerland so we don’t see him as often as we like. He needed to be in Atlanta for some work meetings and medical appointments, so he made sure to stop by for the weekend before heading back home.
He didn’t arrive at our house until 11:00pm, waay past Ava’s bedtime. Even though everyone else in the house was snoozing away, I made sure to stay up so I could greet him and show him his weekend quarters.
(You may have caught me on Instagram Stories earlier that night: I was sipping on wine, noshing on bites, and doing some Christmas shopping at the Junior League of Washington’s Candy Cane Cocktails with my friend Hannah. This event was the grand opening night of the Junior League’s 58th Annual Shops to ring in the holiday season. The shopping extravaganza was held at Union Market and over 70 vendors were there selling goodies. It was the perfect way to spend a Friday night. Hannah and I did get our photo taken by the professional photographer on site. Once I get the photo, I will share it. 🙂
Ava greeted dad on Saturday morning with a big smile. I’m sure the plush Mickey Mouse, Mickey Mouse slippers, and books that he brought for her had nothing to do with it! 😉
A bit later after an abnormal late-morning nap by Miss Ava (she woke up at 6:00am, another oddity), she, Tommy, my dad, and I were off to Virginia Wine Country, Quattro Goomba’s Winery, to be exact! I had been wanting to come to this particularly winery because of their famed wine slushies and dad being in town seemed like the perfect reason to come out here this weekend.
Not only does Quattro Goombas have a winery + an adults only tasting room (everything else is kid-friendly), they also have a brewery, and a pizzeria.
Tommy and my dad decided to start with a couple brews at the brewery once we got there and enjoyed watching Ava make new friends around the property.
While yours truly promptly headed over to the pizzeria where the wine slushies were.
Isn’t this seating area by the pizzeria great?!
We of course had to try Quattros’ pizza. Our Margarita pizza with pepperoni was so tasty. Dad was skeptical at first, but even he commented that it was good. (Remember my parents can be food snobs).
We spent about a couple hours here enjoying the grounds and ambiance before a very windy pending rain storm had us back in our car heading to Tyson’s mall so dad could shop for a few things.
I was able to buy a couple items I needed at the mall as well and Ava was entertained by all the pre-holiday hustle and bustle happening here. She was one tired little girl once we got home and bed time was a breeze with her.
Once Ava was fast asleep the adults had a delicious dinner of mushroom pasta and tuna that dad had lovingly prepared for us. It was to die for.
The gang had somewhere to be at 9:30am sharp on Sunday. We were meeting a photographer to do a holiday photo shoot around Old Town Alexandria! We all had a great time taking pictures along the water front and Torpedo Factory Art Center, despite the chilly weather. Just like last year, Miss Violet even joined in on the fun. We can’t wait to see the photos our photographer, Abigail, took! I’ll recap our photo shoot specifically later.
The rest of the day was spent grabbing bagels on our way home from our shoot to accompany the delicious salmon cream cheese dad made, running errands, and watching football before it was time for dad to head to the airport.
We had such a great time with my dad this weekend and I’m so glad that he and Ava got along so well. Ava loved playing with him, reading books with him, and just being silly in front of him.
Until next time…a possible summer trip to Geneva is on our radar for 2017…!
Have a great night!
