Hello! Hope you had a good weekend.
On Saturday Tommy and I treated our friends Allison and George to brunch in Old Town Alexandria at Vermilion, a cute seasonal farm-to-table restaurant. Both sets of parents were sans kids so it was extra special. 😉 While we always have a good time with Allison and George and consider them among our best friends, this time around we were meeting them for a special occasion. Because we aren’t able to go to Cancun with them later this month to celebrate Allison’s 30th, we thought brunch was the next best thing. Stupid #adulting.
To start we couldn’t decide between two appetizers that jumped out at all of us, so we ordered both.
For our main meal Allison and I decided to try the Crispy Chicken and Grits.
I thought this dish was delicious. For some reason I was surprised that an over-easy-egg came with the dish (and I remember Allison saying the dish itself wasn’t at all what she expected), but since we both had sunshine plates after the meal, I’d say it was a winner.
Tommy decided to get the Spicy Chicken Sandwich and I actually can’t remember what George ordered. #fail! Another fail, no pictures of their dishes.
I loved the wine wall on the second floor of the restaurant.
From the outside you really can’t tell how big the space is. There is plenty of seating downstairs, a cool bar (perfect for getting a night cap) with a lounge area, and then the second floor has lots of seating. (This is where we sat).
The fact that we were able to enjoy a leisurely 2.5 hour brunch on a particularly beautiful fall day were all icing on the cake.
So glad we were able to pin down a time to brunch with these great friends of ours. HAPPY EARLY BIRTHDAY ALLISON! XO.
