Happy Hump day!
Wow, is that title not a mouthful?!
On Saturday mid-morning we hopped in our Jeep, sans Ava and Violet, and were on our way to Fredrick, Maryland – a super cute, funky town about 1.5 hours (each) away from our house. I had been here a couple of times, once for a work event and then again for my mom’s birthday last year. Every time I come to Fredrick I really enjoy it and always want to come back. The feeling didn’t change after this day trip either. 🙂
When we arrived in Fredrick it was about noon, which was perfect since I had made a lunch reservation at Family Meal, an all day diner-style restaurant owned by Chef Bryan Voltaggio. I had been wanting to eat here for a bit because I had heard the food was not only delicious, but that the relaxed, chill atmosphere of the place was icing on the cake. I knew Tommy would love it.
Even though it was a sunny day, it was a bit nippy so I decided to order a Hot Toddy. It’s Fall after all!
Tommy and I decided to order onion rings to share. These hit the spot.
For lunch Tommy got the House Pastrami Sandwich.
And yours truly got the signature dish, the Fried Chicken! Even though it was delicious I couldn’t eat it all in one go. Heavenly.
We both left very impressed with Family Meal. It is definitely worth a day trip to come eat here for a meal.
After lunch we popped by downtown because there was a shop called Relish that I wanted to stop at. They are only located in Fredrick and have the cutest kitchenware and other house decor items. I always find something to buy here!
Saturday was no exception either. I found a couple of really cute Christmas gifts for some friends. 🙂
After our shopping jaunt we drove to a local brewery, Flying Dog Brewery! I knew Tommy had been wanting to come here so I thought it would be perfect to come here for our anniversary. On most Saturdays the brewery holds a festival or gathering of some sort on the grounds of the brewery, closing off the brewery itself. This past Saturday a local band was playing, there were several beer tastings, and many of Flying Dog’s partners were invited to attend and most had pitched kiosks and were selling food, clothing, coffee, and jewelry. While it would have been nice to go inside the facilities, we had a wonderful time soaking it all in. And it was nice to be outside.
I only tried a few beer samples, but guess what one of the samples and (and totally by coincidence) ended up being my favorite beer was?

Yup! Flying Dog has a Bee Beer! Tommy actually liked this one too.
Alas, soon it was time to head home, but we really enjoyed our time in Fredrick and spending some alone time together!
If you are in the DMV area and haven’t been to Fredrick, I strongly recommend you come out this way. There is really something for everyone to enjoy.
Have a great night!
