Last Wednesday, bright and early, my mom, Tommy, Ava, and I were on our way to Punta Cuna in the Dominican Republic for our good friends, Arlene and Seyla’s wedding extravaganza! Ms. V stayed behind with her Numero Uno babysitter Christina!
This was the first time any of us had been to the DR or had stayed in an all-inclusive resort – though I had heard of the many perks of these kinds of resorts from many people. We stayed at the Dreams Punta Cuna Resort & Spa, a four star property, for 5 days and 4 nights. I definitely see the perks of an all-inclusive resort, especially as a mom now. Everything is at your fingertips – food, drink, entertainment. But after a bit I did start to feel trapped, if you will. Had we stayed any longer I would have signed up for an excursion of some sort to get off the property and see more of the “real” Punta Cuna.
This lobby reminded me of the resorts I had seen and been to in Bali – breezy and inviting. In my child-free days I may have cozied up on a chaise lounge chair with a book and cocktail in the lobby for a couple hours, but not this time! While traveling with a toddler is fun – and Ava travels really well – it is different from traveling sans toddler. You’re an entirely different kind of “busy all the time”.
Once we were checked in we had a couple of hours to chill before congregating with the rest of the wedding attendees for a casual rehearsal dinner at the World Cafe, the resort’s premier buffet restaurant offering a variety of food for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late-nights!
The next day was wedding day! Before hair and makeup appointments, getting ready, and the wedding bash, our little family enjoyed breakfast at another restaurant at the resort, the Seaside Grill (which quickly became a popular spot for us) and pool time.
Here are some getting ready photos:
Pretty soon it was showtime!
As you can imagine, Ava made the perfect flower girl – with some help from Nana and daddy. 🙂
And then it was on to the reception – on the beach!
Life of the party ladies and gents.
After the wedding itself was over on Thursday night the rest of the time we did what you just do at all-inclusive resorts – ate, swam at the pool, played at the beach, slept, repeat. With massages for the adults thrown in there on Friday afternoon! Not a bad way to spend a long holiday weekend! Here are some snapshots.
We all had a lot of fun – thank you Arlene and Seyla for letting us be part of your special wedding trip. You both were radiant, the wedding and reception were beautiful, and it was Ava and my honor to be in your wedding party. The pictures of the entire trip don’t do the experience justice. Here’s to a lifetime of happiness and maybe a playmate for Ava soon?!! 😉
