Yesterday I took Ava to the Charles Houston Recreation Center right by our house. I’m so glad I read about it on another blog I follow, Del Ray Baby, as it was the perfect place to take Ava for a day field trip!
While the Rec Center offers many different activities for people of all ages, the thing that intrigued me was the Soft Play area they had for children 0-5 years old. This space is open M-F from 9am-9pm, Saturday 9am-6pm, and Sunday 1pm-5pm. Since as of late Ava has been a ball of energy – walking, running, and very recently trying to tumble and somersault, I thought this would be right up her alley.
I was very pleasantly surprised to learn that there is also Lil Gymmies Play Time offered M-W & Saturday from 9am-12pm. Since we went to the Rec Center on Tuesday we were able to take advantage of these two areas. For just $5. Adults are free. How is that not a steal?
The setup was pretty great. There were several various sized moon bounces, a tumbling and blocks area, scooters, balls, and other toys for kiddos to play with.
A little while later we decided to go check out the Soft Play area which was down the hallway.
Just to note, at high volume times (weekends) there may be a 30-minute limit to play time as the maximum number of toddlers allowed in the area is 16. When we went there were only 4 other toddlers in the room so we stayed as long as Ava wanted to.
We spent about an hour and 15 minutes here letting Ava run around to her hearts content. Pretty soon our stomachs were telling us it was time for lunch. Ava and I decided to treat her Nana to lunch at Holy Cow in Del Ray!
I definitely plan on coming back here with Ava and possibly even to try out some other activities offered here. It is very convenient that they have a parking lot for visitors. A huge win that this gem is so close by!
Happy Hump Day.
