Hi folks,
Today is the first day of fall so how appropos that I share our fun and seasonal Sunday activities with you today?
On Sunday Tommy, my mom, Lena, Ava and I drove about an hour and a half from our house to Delaplane, Virginia to meet some friends to go apple-picking and pumpkin patch hunting at Hollin Farms. It was quite an adventure!
Not only was Hollin Farms set against an incredible landscape and view, it offered so much more than apple-picking and pumpkin-hunting to guests. If one so desired they could also pick Fall greens by the bushel, a person could dig for potatoes if they wanted, or they could collect an assortment of gourds. There were also vendors selling farm fresh eggs, apple cider donuts, and ice cream. I decided to stick to apples and pumpkins for the house and Tommy and my offices.
Our entire group (15 or so) also lucked out with beautiful weather. Sunny and cool. And Ava loved being outside and in the action.
As we were driving to Hollin Farms, we noticed we passed several local wineries. After we were done collecting apples, pumpkins, and gourds we decided to stop by a winery for a bottle of wine and some snacks!
We settled on Three Fox Vineyards.
It was a great choice for the afternoon – about a 15 minute drive from apple-picking, the weather was still gorgeous and the vineyard itself was inviting, and busy, but not too busy. We opted not to partake in any wine tasting, but we did purchase a bottle of their Pinot Grigio and selected a brie and crackers to go along with a selection of meats I had packed for a snack that morning.
The day’s activities were the perfect way to end a fantastic weekend of some Comeaus visiting us earlier that weekend (more to come on that later this week!)
For the locals, if you ever find yourself in or near Delaplane, VA hit up these two spots. You won’t be disappointed!
