Over Labor Day weekend Tommy, Violet, Ava and I moved!
While we had been talking about moving back closer to D.C. for months, we actually pulled the trigger in early August. We dedicated a Saturday to looking at a handful of houses and condos. That same day we found a single family home we liked in Alexandria, and pulled the trigger!
We are happy renters of a cute, Bungalow-style house in Alexandria (nestled between Del Ray and Old Town). Hence all of the Del Ray outings we have been doing lately. (Sneaky, I know).
While we absolutely adored our house in Chesapeake Beach and enjoyed having our neighborhood across the street from a local beach, the commute to/from work just got to us (particularly me who spent about 3 hours a day in the car.) Even on weekends we found ourselves usually in the car because we were either driving to DC to meet up with friends and family or running errands. I had also found out that my mom was sick again (cancer) and I needed to be closer to her to help her run errands, cook meals, and take her to the hospital.
Unfortunately we also had to say good-bye to some pretty amazing neighbors, Violet’s dog-walker who she LOVES and a lot of women who offered me countless support and advice while I navigated mothering a newborn. The move was definitely bittersweet.
We are definitely enjoying our new area and being so close to people and stores and things, (I can metro to/from work again!) but moving from a brand new house that we built to a smaller, older home has been an adjustment. Our house is pretty much unpacked, but we still have some boxes we need to tackle!
I will leave you with this blog post I wrote sharing the news that we were leaving DC and moving to Chesapeake Beach. My things can change in only a year and a half-ish!
Have a great night!
