I hope everyone had a happy Valentine’s and/or Galentine’s Day this past Saturday! Tommy and I had a pretty eventful day. 🙂
This year Valentine’s Day fell on a Saturday night, but instead of taking advantage of that, when deciding what to do this year I thought it’d be nice to do a Valentine’s Day lunch. My reasoning: a slightly cheaper menu, a slightly lesser crowd to deal with, and having more flexibility with our day and night for other plans.
I had heard great things about Fiola Mare on the Georgetown Waterfront so it was a no-brainer for me to make a reservation here for lunch on Saturday. I enjoyed the restaurant, particularly the food, ambiance, and customer service but Tommy had a slightly different opinion. Full disclosure: even for lunch this restaurant is VERY pricey.
Once we were seated with our beverages (iced tea) and had ordered our entrees we settled into a great conversation and were just enjoying looking out the window of the restaurant onto the Potomac River and taking in the ambiance of Fiola Mare (which Tommy did agree was very nice). I couldn’t tell if it was my preggo appetite but at some point I started to feel like our entrees were taking a little too long to come out. While I was never sure this was the case, the kitchen did send us a complimentary Potato Pancake with Black Caviar each to enjoy while we waited.
Pretty soon our entrees arrived. We decided not to do the Price Fixed Brunch, which included bottomless mimosas and Bloody Marys, and just ordered a la carte.
I ordered the Tagliatelle with Lobster.
While Tommy ordered the Jumbo Crab Cakes with a side salad.
We were originally planning on not ordering dessert, but our observant waitress noticed I was pregnant on one of my many trips to the restroom and when I came back from my last restroom break I found this at the table with Tommy.
Tommy and I dug right in. 🙂
After lunch we stopped by my mom’s condo to visit and drop off her Valentine’s Day gift. Mom, being mom, of course had presents for Tommy, Ava, and myself as well.
Before we left mom’s condo we had to snap a couple of “bump photos” for Tommy’s older sister. 🙂
Once we left mom’s we took care of a few mundane items (grocery shopping and filling my Jeep tires with air) before coming home and enjoying the rest of the day to ourselves.
However Valentine’s Day wasn’t quite over yet – Tommy made us a delicious Valentine’s Day dinner courtesy of Blue Apron. For Saturday night’s dinner he tried the Steak & Miso-Roasted Vegetable Salad. So good!
After dinner Tommy and I took to a looming nursery project that was on our to-do list – putting up a huge wall decal in Ava’s room. It was a complex and lengthy process (in total took about 3.5 hours or so), but we LOVED the result.
I ordered the decal off Esty from a vendor called EvgieNev. I would definitely order another wall decal from this shop again. I like their products and their customer service is pretty good. At the beginning I had a hard time understanding the instructions that came along with my decal and the owner was very responsive and attentive to my questions – she answered them all and sent me new detailed instructions. She even offered to do a Skype call with me and walk me through everything if I still had difficulty installing the decal.
After the decal was assembled it was time for bed!
What did you do on Valentine’s Day?
