We made it safely back home! Weather-wise the drive was just fine. However Tommy came down with something the day after Christmas so unfortunately he was miserable on the ride home, but still did two driving shifts – AMAZING! We rolled into our garage around 3am on Saturday.
On our drive we stopped for dinner in Mystic, Connecticut. I had gotten the idea earlier in the day – we always drive through Connecticut on our way to Maine and from Maine, why don’t we take advantage of going somewhere we had never been, doing something touristy and fun, and knocking dinner out of the way? So we went to Mystic Pizza! As many of you know, Mystic Pizza is also a 1988 movie about three teenage girls working at this pizza place and stars Julia Roberts, among others. The restaurant inspired the movie. I have to admit I have not yet seen this movie, but plan to this coming weekend – thanks mom and her Netflix! We went to the original Mystic Pizza, but there is also a Mystic II that was built to accommodate crowds of people wanting to eat here.
As you can see, the inside of Mystic Pizza is casual and very chill. It’s also bigger than I thought it would be. This is the main dine-in area. The entrance is used for customers who would like to quickly order their food or are picking up orders they already called in.
Photos from the movie Mystic Pizza and newspaper clippings adorned the walls of the restaurant.
The front page of our menu told you the whole story of the restaurant and how it inspired the movie.
And now for the pizzas Tommy and I ordered!
We were both very pleased with our orders. We ordered small pizzas, but for larger parties large-sized pizzas are available.
Tommy and I agreed that we’d definitely go back to Mystic (and to Mystic Pizza). From what we saw of the town it looked really cute and charming – lots of shops, a couple of Bed & Breakfasts and some seafood restaurants.
