We made it to Maine!!! We pulled into our house at about 8am on Saturday after driving through the night. You’ll be happy to know that both Tommy and I successfully accomplished the goal of eating only healthy snacks on the road. I will say, having a bag full of healthy snacks readily available made the task so much easier. So thank you for all your input. 🙂
Once we arrived we let Violet run around the yard for a bit and visited with Tommy’s brother and niece before we took a much needed nap!
When we woke up several hours later, I had to check off 30 minutes of cross-training per my half-marathon plan so Tommy and I decided to take Violet for a brisk 30-minute walk. As we were walking we were greeted by snow falling!
On Sunday I knocked out 4 miles per my training plan running outside on a route my brother in-law and sister in-law mapped out for me. It was a brisk 32 degrees, but was really sunny and pleasant. It also helped that I was decked out in my new running gear Julie gave me for Christmas! While I was out running, Tommy went to a local gym to do his weight-training.
Cupcakes!
After we both showered we ran a very special errand. My sister in-law Dawn’s sister, Kim, opened up a bakery in North Windham about 6 months ago and I hadn’t been there yet. I wanted to go there for two reasons. 1) I wanted to see her new labor of love and 2) I LOVE cupcakes.
The bakery space was beautiful. The kitchen area was set in a very open way where a customer can look right in to where all the cupcake and baked good magic happens! In addition to a wide assortment of baked goods, Molly’s offers various soups, sandwiches, salads, coffee and beverages to customers so there is something for everyone.
Of course Tommy and I each had to test out a cupcake to make sure they weren’t poisonous! I tried a white cupcake with white and buttercream icing and Tommy had a white cupcake with raspberry icing.
I have to be honest, I thought my cupcake was one of the best cupcakes I have ever tasted. The cake part was so fluffy and light and the icing was so flavorful and rich. I would even go as far to say that this cupcake was a bit better than any Georgetown Cupcake, Red Velvet, or Hello Cupcake I have had in D.C. I promise I am being completely unbiased. If you are ever in the Portland area, you have to stop at Molly’s.
