As you can imagine a 12- hour winter road trip (the weather forecast calls for snowy, rainy, and windy conditions for our drive – yes!) with a dog, for a week-long stay in Maine, might entail some serious packing. Here are some essentials we WILL NOT and CANNOT leave our condo without.
For Ms. Violet:
Car trips are not one of her favorite things to say the least. She gets anxious and cannot get comfortable. She’s consistently panting and moving around. We think it’s a combination of motion sickness (apparently it’s common in Pit Bulls) and perhaps because she associates the car with part of her past. (Unfortunately she had been abused before Tommy and I rescued her 2.5 years ago). So we’ve tried multiple things to help alleviate this stress.

Violet’s thunder shirt. A thunder shirt helps alleviate dog anxiety by using gentle, constant pressure to calm a dog.

In addition to her thunder shirt, we also give her a small dose of liquid Benadryl to make her a little drowsy.

For Tommy and me:

I am probably the most excited about this! Our EZ Pass transponder came in the mail yesterday. This will allow us to zip through all the tolls we will hit on our trip faster than stopping and paying each toll with cash.

Snacks for the road trip. Do not worry, this isn’t our complete stash. I plan on hitting the grocery store tonight for healthy and delicious munchies! (I didn’t get a chance to go last night per my post the other day).
For Tommy’s family:
For me:

My workout clothes. I’ve got to keep up my training for the half marathon!

Fabulous additions to my workout collection! My friend Julie gave me a neck warmer (and it’s versatile. It can be used as a scarf, headband, and ear- warmers!) and running gloves from Lululemon for Christmas. Perfect for Maine runs. 🙂
